The Sea Will Cradle

I learn to float like a log,
neither fidgeting nor thrashing,
the calm water is a hand
that provides, like a pillow,
slowly submerging
until water touches my cheeks.

Not letting fear cramp
I lie back, tilt the chin
let the stars guide.
So gently,
I spread arms like an eagle's
and let the warm water,
push me up afloat
to where I want to be.

When cold panic swims by,
go with her whims and her tides
look for the stars listen to her breathe,
lie back, be gentle,
and the sea will cradle you.
