The Tao of Sailing

Hold fast to the power of the One.
It will unify the body
and merge it with the spirit.
       —Tao Te Ching 10

There's lots of grist in graduate school.
I don't remember morning lectures,
library evenings, nor
pedantic papers written.

But I do remember afternoons
free from the academic grind,
a fresh breeze on Lake Michigan,
rowing the dingy to my rig, the Thane.

Shroud and stay, rigging and line
all give way to wind and sail.
To be One with the list
and the fresh blown spray.
