Admonition to the Poets
Poets who relish monologue
and relinquish dialogue
are wise to acknowledge dialogue,
which can survive exile
or outlaw status,
but not stasis.
In solitary flight there is still
commerce between feathers,
between feathers and air,
air opening to the whole sky.
Words express sentiment,
which is shared,
not a solitary sport.
Poetic outbursts
can form downpours
that nourish creative beings
to expand beyond the boundaries
of their own expressions,
and share in the work of others.
Yes, a poet can learn
to levitate the solitary
into the multiform world
of shared experience
right here, right now,
on The Golden Lantern sites,
which light our way,
even as we write.
