lodestar

light ahead    you go there    a sense
that you let it all hang out
forget
         all you thought of fear

yesterday's dog    urinates in some
forgotten gutter    here forgotten until
yanked forward on its tether
along memory's twisting

slow turnout lane    the gardener works
his hoe into the earth    scuffling it
into clumps of richness    along the brain's
pathway    all is still there    waiting

                                                   forgotten
forgotten     until remembered that we
also have the sun     and the moon
and a history of stars
