Zen Yellow

Washing dishes this morning
I was thinking
about the nature
of reality, Annie says.
But, you are a painter!
You always think about
the nature of reality, I say.

Well yes, the light
the darkness and which
kind of suffering is optional.
Choose one from each column.
From Column A, to have loved
fiercely and lost, from Column B,
you fill in the blank.

No, let's go for a walk
instead. The tulips are
starting to show their
colors. With a little warm
Encouragement they will
be ready to open.
Then let's, she says.

I am not normally
fond of yellow,
personally, but this
yellow, in true tulip
fashion, is enchanting.
Who better, I think,
to question the nature of reality
than someone who doesn't exist.
