The Flower of Compassion

[I was reading about Tsunami disaster the other day, and suddenly I remembered somebody's observation, that the hand that offers flowers will have the fragrance of the flower, and I wrote the following lines.]

The hand that offers flowers to the Buddha
Will have the fragrance of the flower.
The hand that offers help to the needy
Will have the fragrance of compassion.
The flowers fade, become garbage,
Their fragrance disappears.
The flower of compassion
Will never decay or disappear,
And bears fruit over many lifetimes.
Great merit there is
In offering flowers to the Buddha.
Greater merit it is,
To give to those in need.
In giving, one sees the Buddha and the Dhamma.
