Buddha's Mirror

If Buddha was a mirror
he would be shattered
and scattered
throughout the world
the rays of the sun would reflect
the light of compassion.
A thousand images of Buddha
would project onto the landscape
even in the dark back streets of the city
you could find a shard of that mirror
looking into it
Buddha sits on a pure white lotus
smiling back
and you realize
a light in the darkness
shines even brighter.
This is the way
and heart
of Chan Buddhism
